Traffic Violations

Many people will tell you that you do not need a lawyer for traffic violations. However, if you collect enough points, you will lose your license. An experienced lawyer can fight the charges or negotiate a plea deal, allowing you to keep your driving privileges and keep points from being placed on your record.

At Tilem & Campbell, we offer free consultations to people charged with a wide range of traffic infractions, misdemeanors, and felonies, from DWIs to speeding. We serve every New York City borough and residents of Westchester County, including White Plains, Yonkers, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, and others.

Points assessed against your New York driver’s license for moving violations committed in New York can be very harsh. When charged with any violation, it is imperative that you plead not guilty and hire a competent legal team to defend you in court. Many times, our lawyers successfully negotiate plea bargains for our clients in which case our client will plead guilty to a lesser offense, reducing and possibly preventing points being placed on our client's driver’s license. Many times, clients can sign an Authorization to Appear thus eliminating the need to appear in court with us.

Frequent moving violation citations in New York and point values assessed are listed as follows:

On top of the threat of license revocation, there is also a surcharge system in New York called the "Driver Responsibility Assessment". Any time you have more than 6 points on your license, you are charged a civil penalty of $100 per year for 3 years. Each additional point costs you $25 per year. Your car insurance rates may also be increased. Costs accumulate quickly. Hiring a skilled attorney may prevent additional points from being placed on your record.
